Through the computing curriculum we aim for pupils to:

  • gain the skills and confidence required to embrace and utilise new technology,

  • gain skills in the areas of ‘Programming and coding’, ‘Information technology’ and ‘Digital literacy’,

  • develop creativity, resilience, problem solving and critical thinking skills.

  • understand how to stay safe online in order to become socially responsible users of technology,

  • use technology effectively to support learning across the entire curriculum and beyond.

Implementation: The computing curriculum is taught through a progression of knowledge and skills.  Pupils access the school’s ICT suite and mobile devices such as ipads and chrome books to work on the objectives set out for each year group.  The computing scheme ‘Switched on computing’ is used to support planning and to provide resources.  Pupils are taught specific computing objectives in discrete computing lessons but also have opportunities to practice these skills across the curriculum through research and other IT led activities including as a means of demonstrating knowledge and understanding.
