Pre School Early Adopter letter

Published by: | Date: 29th September 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope your child has had an enjoyable and fulfilling first few weeks in Preschool. It has been a real privilege to meet all our new pupils and families. We have been very busy learning all about your child and welcoming them into school.

I am writing to provide additional information about your child’s learning journey and assessments this year.

Early Years – Early Adopter Status

Throughout their Preschool year all children are assessed against a set of development statements in different areas of learning. The Government has decided to change the Development Matters framework that we use to assess your child and has offered schools the chance to adopt the new framework one year early, in September 2020

Our school has decided to become an early adopter school and from this year we will be using the new Development Matters framework to assess your children during their time in Preschool. Development Matters is not a checklist of things that your child should do, rather it is guidance for adults who work with children, to help them to support and embed your child’s learning journey.

What does this mean for your child?

Nothing will change for your child. We will continue to offer them the highest quality learning experiences in school and we will continue to develop the whole child, thinking about how they learn and who they are as individuals. We will continue to support you to the best of our ability and value your opinions and knowledge of your child. We will still use the children’s work in their books and Tapestry to record your child’s learning journey.

We appreciate all your support and input into Tapestry as much of the children’s learning at this stage comes from unplanned experiences when they are at home. Please continue sharing your child’s experiences via Tapestry as this will provide us with additional information to provide a rounded picture of your child’s learning.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns then please don’t hesitate to ask.

Thank you,

Miss Emery
