Y5 Virtual lessons

12th June 2020

Dear Year five parents,

You may have heard the recent government announcement that the plans to bring all primary pupils back into school before the summer has now been postponed.  This is as a result of social distancing being required in schools and therefore each returning year group needing additional staffing and accommodation.  As a school we have been fortunate enough to be able to welcome back all the year groups as suggested by the government, ie. Pre-school, Reception, Y1 and Y6.  This is alongside the continued child care for key worker and vulnerable children.

As a result of the latest government announcement, we will not be able to welcome back pupils from Y5 at the current time.  We are however, determined to support these pupils as they continue to learn at home.  Most pupils have been very active on the ‘google classroom’ or with their home learning packs.  We would now like to extend our offer for these pupils further by introducing some live interactive lessons of approximately 30 minutes with groups of around 4 other pupils, led by either Mr Moxon or Miss Hussey using ‘google meet’.  This is a system which will allow a small group of pupils to meet virtually with a teacher and undertake a virtual lesson in real time. The frequency of these lessons will depend upon interest and more information will be provided next week.

To allow us to organise this, we need all parents who are interested in their child taking part in some interactive lessons with our staff to e-mail school using the office@st-elizabeths.staffs.sch.uk email to express their interest.  Due to the short time frame, we will need these responses by Monday 15th June at 9am.  If we do not hear from you by Monday morning, we will assume that you do not wish your child to take part in virtual lessons and would prefer for your child to continue just using ‘google classroom’.  Please note that google classroom will remain open to all pupils regardless of whether they choose to take part. Pupils from Y5 who are currently attending school in the keyworker groups will have the opportunity to access these lessons face to face in school with Mrs Hardy.

I would like to once again thank you for your on-going support during this difficult time.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs M Walsh
