We have been very busy in Year 6 this term. We have thoroughly enjoyed learning about different Explorers and how the environment changes within different climates and areas of the world. For Geography we produced our own Expedition Guides to inform other people of key information which they would need to know, if they were thinking of going to the Arctic.
On our D&T day we designed, constructed and evaluated CAM systems. We came to the conclusion that CAM systems are used in a great deal of every day appliances such as toys. To incorporate our own designs of CAM systems, we constructed a moving scene whereby the CAM system moved one or two particular parts of that scene. We used many cross- curricular skills and knowledge to complete the final piece – especially using our new 3D computer design software to make a 3D prototype of the final design.
In year 6 we have the responsibility of promoting reading in our school. We do this through becoming reading champions. To become a reading champion we had to apply for the role through an application system and were chosen by showing our ideas of how to improve reading across the school. Everyday we have the responsibility to work with KS1 children listening to them read, we also take part in a weekly book club whereby we can talk and discuss new and adventurous books.

Vocations Talk - Ann-Christy John came from the Vocations Department at the Diocese to talk about vocations. She discussed with the children what vocations means. A Vocation is a 'calling', Ann-Christy highlighted different people from the Old Testament who had been called by God. Noah, Samuel, Ester. Then she identified people from the New Testament, such as Mary. Mary agreed to be the Mother of Jesus, she decided to take that 'calling' on. She explained about how God created a perfect plan for our lives. However, she explained that God's perfect plan may not be followed by us, we may choose our own path. God is a loving Father and he gives us free will to choose for ourselves. God knows us better than we know ourselves. What kind of a person do you want to be? What qualities do you have? Could you be a Saint? Yes or No.
Alton Castle - On Wednesday 13th September until Friday 15th September 2017, Year 6 went to Alton Castle for their residential retreat. They took part in lots of activities. They sang, prayed and took part in Mass. They thoroughly enjoyed their time there and were sad to leave on the Friday. They all have wonderful memories of their time there.
