As part of their DT day, Year Three created a Golden Fleece. During the Spring term, our topic has been about Ancient Greece. Focusing on myths and legends in our English lessons, we decided to create our own fleece, based on the myth 'Jason and the Golden Fleece'. The children really enjoyed learning about and practicing the running stitch and attaching beads and sequins onto the fleece.

As part of our Autumn DT day, Year 3 made their own pizzas! We designed our pizza, made the base from scratch and then decided what ingredients we wanted on top!. We made a trip to Morrisons to buy which ingredients we wanted, liking with our topic: Where does our food come from?

Summer Term 2019

During the summer term all our children enjoyed taking part in an art day.  The Year 3 art competition winner is pictured below.

Spring Term 2019

Year 3 has been very busy this half term. They got to meet up with their friends, who they have been corresponding with, from Sacred Heart School in Aston, Birmingham. They enjoyed an activity rich day which included a special collective worship celebrating their new friendships.

In science, we have been looking at the functions and purpose of different parts of a flowering part and the importance of what they need to grow and be healthy. We conducted numerous scientific investigations, our favourite being dissecting stems of different plants and understanding the role it takes within a plant.

In our topic lessons, we have been exploring the structure of volcanoes and how they are formed. We have linked our topic work to the book ‘Escape from Pompeii’ and produced some descriptive writing about what it might have been like to live in an area where a ‘live’ volcano is situated.

Autumn Term 2018

Year 3 has been very busy this half term. The children have been getting used to the expectations of KS2.  We have applied our maths learning in to different contexts and the learning we most enjoyed has taken us outside.

In science, we have been looking at in detail about light and how shadows are produced. We have investigated if light travels in straight lines and also if a shadow of an object changes. We even used maths in these lessons which was a bit of cross curriculum work!

In RE, we have looking at Baptism and looking at the first part of Mass. We had fun role playing what happens during a Baptism and composing and constructing music to familiar Psalms.

In our topic lesson, we have been exploring prehistoric Britain and looking at the different ages which make up this era in detail. We have studied original artefacts from all the periods and explored cave drawings from the Stone Age ad clay beakers  used in  the Bronze Age, both we have recreated in our topic lesson.

Summer Term 2018

In Year 3,  we thought about how Jesus' apostles felt after the Resurrection, particularly after the miraculous catch of fish.  We visited our friends at Sacred Heart School in Birmingham, and also had a trip to a mosque to learn about how Muslims worship.

In Maths, we explored the properties of shapes.

We thought about heroes and villains, and used our sewing skills to make monster puppets.

We explored how water is transported in plants, and thought about why our experiments with celery might not work in hot weather!

Autumn Term 2017

In Year 3, we have studied the ancient Greeks; we particularly enjoyed making our own Greek pots from clay, and exploring the myth of King Midas.  In Maths, we looked at how to collect and present data, such as by using pictograms.

We prepared for many in the class to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time by exploring God's loving forgiveness and how he acts through his priests to bring us back to him.

Autumn One 2017

In Year 3, we have had a busy start to the year. As well as our super writing based on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and doing fantastic number and calculation work in Maths, we have been busy baptising babies, being geologists, archaeologists and palaeontologists and have enjoyed keeping healthy through swimming sessions a dance workshop. We have also been reflecting on how we make good choices, so that we get on well together as God’s children.

In 2016, as part of our topic on prehistoric Britain, Year 3 had our own archaeology dig.  We were learning the steps archaeologists go through, beginning with marking out the area, then digging carefully with trowels.  Next we brushed the soil from artefacts before washing them in water using a toothbrush.  Finally we sorted the artefacts into find trays putting similar objects together.  We recorded our findings by taking photos and making notes with the IPad.
